Top 5 Console Games For Christmas 2013

Video Games

The number-one item on every little girl and boy’s wish list this year is likely to be either Playstation 4 (Out November 15th) or Xbox One (Available November 29th), and both game consoles have a lot to offer. Xbox One, the successor to Xbox 360, claims to have more games in development now than ever before in the history of Xbox. But, in this decade of great gaming systems, you don’t have to throw out the old system (or its games) every time a new one pops up. In fact, some of the best games coming out this fall and winter are for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Here are the top five on our Holiday wish list:

5. Call of Duty: Ghosts (November 5th) Win, X360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One
For Call of Duty fans, the tenth installment of the series, Ghosts, won’t be a disappointment. It’s light on plot, strong on artillery, and the new Clan system has made the multiplayer aspect refreshingly different.

4. Batman: Arkham Origins (October 25th): Win, PS3, X360, WiiU
Remember when Batman was a bad-ass? Well, the Bad-Bat is back with Arkham Origins, which introduces an original prequel storyline that takes place several years before Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Batman here is younger, angrier and grittier, facing challenges that define his future as the Dark Knight. Multiplayer mode lets you fight crime as Batman, Robin, or as elite members of The Joker or Bane gangs.

3. Grand Theft Auto V (September 17th): PS3, Xbox 360
Open world, multiple character options, rampant misogyny, high speed chases, exceptional voice acting and character animation, and lots and lots of violence make Grand Theft Auto V a worthy successor to its previous incarnations – and just as inappropriate for younger audiences. The heists and missions are the high points of the game, requiring elaborate prep work that deeply invests you in the success of the crimes you’re about to commit.

2. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (October 29th): Xbox 1, PS4, Xbox 360
Are you ready to fight for the freedom to do whatever you want? Assassin’s Creed gives you that in a superbly created open world of pirates, ships, and the characteristic flying acrobatics for which the series is famous. It’s a beautiful game, as much fun to watch as to play. Explore 50 unique locations, captain and customize your own ship, search for treasure, hunt rare animals and loot shipwrecks – or just hang out with the wenches.

1. Beyond: Two Souls (October 8th): PS3
Extraordinary performances by Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe might make you wonder if this is a movie or a game – until you get to the gameplay. The plot is riveting with Page’s character born with a link to an invisible force, and the story follows her development over 15 years of her life. And, with impressive production values, this is a stunning game. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take down enemies in multiple violent ways – truly, something for everyone.
